Encouraging a Love of Nutritious Food

At Little Hearts Nursery, we believe mealtimes should be happy, social occasions for both children and staff. We encourage positive interactions during meals, helping children develop a healthy attitude toward food. By creating a welcoming mealtime environment, we support children in learning about food, nutrition, and the importance of a balanced diet.

We are committed to providing healthy, nutritious, and balanced meals and snacks that cater to individual needs. Our staff act as role models during mealtimes, sitting with children to promote good eating habits, table manners, and social interaction. We ensure children with dietary needs or allergies feel included and never singled out.

Children attending full days receive breakfast, lunch, and two daily snacks, while those attending half days receive one snack. Our menus, planned in advance following Department for Education guidelines, are regularly rotated to reflect cultural diversity. Menus are displayed for parents and include allergen information. Meals are nutritious, avoiding excessive fat, sugar, salt, and artificial additives. Fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, and water are provided, with drinking water always available and encouraged, especially in hot weather.

We respect individual dietary requirements, gathering information from parents before a child starts. Where needed, we conduct risk assessments for allergies and take precautions, such as careful seating arrangements, to prevent cross-contamination. We also educate children about allergies and the risks of sharing food. Cultural differences in eating habits are always respected.
